Pram canopies/sunshades
There is some difference of opinion as to which way a sun canopy should be put onto a coachbuilt pram. I was always told the longer piece goes over the pram body, with the shorter piece over the pram hood, but others think it should be the other way round. I don't think it really matters which way the canopy is fixed, what is important is that the baby should be shaded from the sun so fit your canopy whichever way is best for that. Some canopies have adjustable arms which you can use to lower or higher the canopy and all have cords attached so you can adjust the angle of the canopy. It is best to keep the hood as low as possible when you have the canopy on to prevent it fading in the sun. (Do remember when you are not using the pram to keep the hood up, otherwise it will crease badly.)There are other types of canopies besides the traditional types, parasols were popular in the 50's and 60's, but I am not sure they were as effective. Fabrics of canopies changed with fashions, rather like the fabric bodywork on modern prams does nowadays. Some canopies were made to match the interior of the pram, others to match quilt sets. My personal preference is for a pure white broderie anglaise canopy, this looks good with every colour of pram and when washed and ironed regularly it always looks pristine and adds a touch of elegance to the pram.
